Dr Daniel Meßmer is head of the IT & Digital Business department at SKW Schwarz. He advises international corporations, medium-sized companies and start-ups on all legal issues relating to digital business models. He has a particular focus on industrial companies, especially in the area of mobility, as well as software and SaaS providers.

IT contract law
Daniel Meßmer provides comprehensive advice on the drafting, negotiation and interpretation of complex contracts, in particular on software and cloud solutions, SaaS business models and data-based services. He supports clients both with major strategic projects and with the legal protection of day-to-day operations.

Regulatory requirements for digital technologies
A key part of his practice is advising on current European regulations, in particular the Data Act, the Cyber Resilience Act, the NIS2 Directive and the AI Act. Daniel Meßmer develops customised solutions, from contractual implementation and the establishment of efficient compliance structures to integration into existing business processes and IT systems.

Open source software
He advises companies on the legally compliant use of open source software, in particular on licence issues, integration into commercial software products and the establishment of sustainable, company-wide compliance processes. Daniel Meßmer is co-author of the Bitkom guideline ‘Open source software - legal principles and guidelines’.
